About Us
Action for ASD Is a charitable body for people affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders.
The organisation is based at the Autism Resource Centre, a specially designed facility in Harle Syke, Burnley, which houses our soft play centre, bouncy castle, activity area, games consoles, internet area, resource library, offices. conference and meeting rooms.
The Autism Resource Centre was opened in the summer of 2007, after the organisation received funding to install an Autism play centre and resource facility.
Our geographical coverage is East Lancashire. The centre is the only specialist provision in the area offering leisure and recreational opportunities for young people with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorders. From this base, Action for ASD can offer on-site, specialist services and support to families and individuals affected by ASD.
Action for ASD has been successful in developing a number of different services and projects and can now offer a comprehensive support framework from pre-diagnosis and beyond. The group has a strong membership from individuals with a diagnosis of ASD, their families, carers and members of the professional network.
Autism (Including Asperger syndrome) is a lifelong developmental disorder that affects the way a person communicates, relates to others and makes sense of the world.
Individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) experience problems with social relationships, communication and imagination.
In pursuit of our mission we have the following key aims:
- To extend the range and reach of social and leisure activities for children and young people with ASD.
- To explore and where appropriate, support the development of education and training opportunities for young people with ASD.
- To provide advocacy, information and advice to individuals, families, carers and other service providers.
- To investigate the needs of adults who have a diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome.
- To develop and share knowledge and understanding about needs, services and related issues.
- To optimise the organisations resources by a) developing the staff team to deliver the best service possible and b) optimising the income available and to run a sound and efficient organisation.
